Did you know that participation in the census can determine the amount of funding your community receives and can impact the real estate industry?
The information recorded from the census allows the National Association of REALTORS® to collect valuable information about the real estate community. Participation in the census allows for NAR to analyze data related to the number of homebuyers in a particular area or universe of sales, forecast and make projections about housing industry growth, compare census data to NAR’s local and national figures, and even identify trends in household formation.
Beginning last week, invitations to respond to the census were distributed through the mail. These invitations included detailed information about how to respond to the census, citizens have the choice to respond online, by phone, or by mail. If a residence hasn’t responded to the first census mailer, additional reminders will be sent. Starting in May, census takers will begin visiting homes that haven’t responded to the census.
Use the opportunity the census provides to help ensure that your community receives the funding it deserves. These funds will impact funding for schools, housing assistance and loan programs, infrastructure programs, transportation grants, energy assistance, disaster aid, and employment assistance.
Take action. Make sure you respond to the census and encourage your friends and family, your neighbors and co-workers to participate. For more information about the census and its importance to the real estate industry visit NAR’s 2020 Census page at www.nar.realtor/census.
