City of San Antonio’s Assessment of Fair Housing Continues Through June

The City of San Antonio is the recipient of federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As such, the City has an obligation to affirmatively further fair housing as required by the Fair Housing Act (the Act) of 1968.

In addition, it requires that the City administer HUD-funded programs and activities relating to housing and urban development in a manner that affirmatively furthers the policies of the Act.

Over the past two months, the City has solicited community input from residents and stakeholder groups, such as the San Antonio Board of REALTORS®, in effort to develop key findings and patterns of housing discrimination. Commentary obtained from the stakeholder interviews and public hearings will be used to draft preliminary recommendations for the City’s Fair Housing Goals & Priorities.

On June 2, the City will initiate a public notice in the San Antonio News Express announcing a public comment period and public hearings.  Public hearings are tentatively scheduled for June 19 and June 26. Hearings will provide further analysis of fair housing and draft assessments.
