2018 Year in Review

As 2018 draws to a close, there are many accomplishments to share, all of which demonstrate the tremendous value each member brings to SABOR. Here’s a look at just a few of these achievements.

Surpassing our TREPAC and RPAC goals

For the second year in a row, SABOR met and surpassed its TREPAC goal! Members also drove the association to reach its RPAC goal for the first time in SABOR history! This means that members collectively gave over $458,000 to support the protection of private property rights. Our RPAC and TREPAC goals could not have been reached without the support of our members and our dedicated TREPAC Committee.

Hosting REALTORS® in San Antonio

This year SABOR was honored to host Texas REALTORS® 360 in San Antonio. Attendees came from nine different boards to meet with Texas REALTORS® leadership to hear important updates from the state level. San Antonio was also fortunate to be the location for this year’s Texas REALTORS® Conference. SABOR was pleased to work closely with Texas REALTORS® to highlight our city.
Advocating for REALTOR® issues in San Antonio. In early April, SABOR members traveled together to City Hall to spend the morning meeting with local legislators and advocating for private property rights. Additionally SABOR members got involved in local legislation that could affect REALTORS® and the real estate industry in San Antonio.

Developing members

From January through October, over 1,500 new REALTOR® members joined SABOR, an average of 153 new members per month. In 2018 SABOR surpassed 11,000 total members!

Providing quality education

Numerous education events and programs were offered this year, many of which were developed and hosted by committees at SABOR. These often featured guest speakers to educate members on developments around town as well as the latest updates in the industry, all in an effort to keep members informed.

Special member events

This year SABOR implemented the Know Your City event series. These events took place at different locations around the city in an effort to help our members be better informed about their city. Locations included Confluence Park, the AT&T Center, San Pedro Creek, and Brooks City Base. Chairman Chats were also new events this year. SABOR’s Chairman Lorena Peña traveled around town to meet with members and give updates on the state of the association as well as hear feedback from members.

Promoting the value of using a REALTOR®

This year alone, SABOR appeared in the news over 150 times, including interviews in print and television as well as advertisements and articles online. Appearances included instructions to search for a REALTOR® on SABOR.com and stressed why consumers should rely on a REALTOR® when buying or selling property.

Giving back to the community

In 2018, members joined together to volunteer with several charitable activities, demonstrating their care for their local community. In support of San Antonio’s 300th year, SABOR partnered with SA300 for a project at SAMMinistries. Participants were able to roll up their sleeves and create a Born Learning Trail at SAMMinistries Transitional Living and Learning Center. In March and October, REALTOR® and Affiliate members joined forces to assist in building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Members also hosted an Easter Egg Hunt at SAMMinistries, complete with a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny and a photo booth. This year members volunteered on four occasions to cook and serve dinner to the residents living in the SAMM shelter. Over the summer, members participated in a school uniform drive for the kids living at SAMM and also partook in a paper towel drive to benefit the SA Humane Society. In October our members came together to restock the San Antonio Food Bank with a Mac & Cheese Food Drive, donating over 500 pounds of food. On November 30th, SABOR members gave back to the community by participating in our first ever Park Clean-Up at a city park. In December, members donated gifts to the children at SAMM for the holidays and participated in a holiday event which featured photos with Santa and cookie decorating.

We look forward to another successful year in 2019!
