Do you know if you have fulfilled the Code of Ethics requirement set by NAR? REALTORS® are required to complete Code of Ethics training every two years.
This requirement changed from quadrennial to biennial by the National Association of REALTORS®. The current two-year cycle began on January 1, 2017, and the deadline to complete this requirement is December 31, 2018.
To fulfill this requirement:
REALTORS® may complete Code of Ethics online through NAR. There is no cost to take the course, however, CE credit is available for a fee.
Some REALTORS® may be renewing their license at the end of this year, in which case they will need to take Legal Update II online or in person. In this case, no additional Code of Ethics course is needed as Legal Update II fulfills this requirement.
If a REALTOR® is not renewing, but they have already taken Legal Update II in 2017 or 2018, they will not need to take an additional Code of Ethics course, unless they are new members who have not yet taken Code of Ethics.
New REALTORS® who join the association are required to take a REALTOR® Code of Ethics New Member Course within a certain time period. If a member has joined SABOR in 2017 or 2018 and has not yet taken the course, they must do so before the end of the year.
Appraisers must fulfill this requirement as well. As appraisers join the association they become part of the REALTOR® brand and are subject to the REALTOR® NAR requirements. Click here to take the course online.
This requirement must be completed by December 31, 2018, to avoid membership suspension. Submit a copy of completion to firstname.lastname@example.org.
