A short-term rental ordinance is being considered by the city of San Antonio. This ordinance would make it very difficult, if not impossible, to rent out a home for 30 days or less.
Short-term rental owners would be required to register for a short-term rental license and submit to an inspection. The ordinance allows inspections to occur without owner notification or an administrative search warrant. There are no inspection standards or regulations to guide the process.
Additionally, in the case of law enforcement responding to a complaint and issuing a citation, the owner and/or their agents have one hour to make contact with the occupants. This could be a potentially dangerous situation for owners and agents, who are unfairly being put in a law enforcement role.
